Hello everyone,
Today is Yesterday was the official release date for The Island (because I couldn’t quite get my ass around to writing this whole post on time), and today is the start of our tour! I am very excited and nervous and a bit scared to share it with the world.
But why, you might ask (and people have asked) are you worried about releasing a long poem, a form so dense and archaic you are almost guaranteed an audience of one (1) tumbleweed and maybe a few cow skulls?
(And maybe long poems are a bit like Norwegian black metal bands, you know, instantly inauthentic as soon as more than 3 of your closest friends who are also in Norwegian black metal bands know about it?)
At any rate, the reason is because my long poem sort of feels like “hyperpop” poetry (hyperpoetry?) to me - all flashy & fun & chaotic & messy & controversial & highly cancellable & lascivious & emo & queer & dark as hell. And if you want to know what exactly about it is all those things - if you want the goss - well, you’ll simply have to read it.
But I think maybe the real question is more: why would someone even want to try to write a long poem in the first place? In some ways I have no idea. I guess I have a few thoughts, but for today at least, I don’t want to bore you to death with the details (those will be in the next post for the poetry ride-or-diers), so for now, please just enjoy this silly lil book release photoshoot we did while I was visiting my brother at his new place in upstate NY:
That’s it ! Hope it entices you to buy the book ! :))
Oh and if you want to more actual written content about The Island, it was featured on Dennis Cooper’s legendary blog yesterday, so you can read about it there.
Thanks a lot for reading :)
